USA Wrestling Preseason Folkstyle Nationals
Nine members of the Trojan Wrestling family competed at the USA Wrestling Preseason Folkstyle National tournament at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls, Iowa on October 31, 2009.
High School Division
103 - Philip Laux: Finished with a 2-2 record.
112 - Jack Hathaway: Finished in 2nd Place with a 5-1 record.
130 - Garret Hathaway: Finished with a 3-2 record.
140 - Gradey Gambrall: Finished with a 2-2 record.
160 - Justin Koethe: Finished with a 4-2 record.
215 - Mickey Pelfrey: Finished in 6th Place with a 4-3 record.
285 - Max Pelfrey: Finished with a 0-2 record.
Middle School Division
136 - Ryan Grosvenor: Finished one match short of All-American honors.
210 - Paul Pelfrey: National Champion.
Iowa High School District Assignments
Trojan varsity wrestlers will travel to Cedar Rapids Jefferson on February 13, 2010 to compete in the Iowa High School District Tournament. Joing the Trojans at this year's district tournament are Cedar Rapids Jefferson, Cedar Rapids Kennedy, Cedar Rapids Washington, Cedar Rapids Xavier, Iowa City High, Linn-Mar, and Marion high schools.
Top two place winners at Districts qualify for the Iowa High School State Individual Tournament to be held in Des Moines beginning Wednesday, February 17, 2010. Additionally, the top two point scoring teams from each District will advance to the Iowa State Regional Dual Meets. Winning team of each Regional Dual Meet will advance to the Iowa State Dual Tournament to be held in Cedar Rapids on Saturday, Februrary 27, 2010.
Mark your calendars today to join us in Cedar Rapids on February 13 in supporting the Trojan Wrestling team.
Blue Chip Fall Brawl
Three members of the Trojan Wrestling family competed at the Blue Chip Fall Brawl at
StaleyHigh School near Kansas City, Missouri on October 17, 2009.
High School Division
112 – Jack Hathaway: Finished in 2nd Place with a 4-1 record. Jack reached the finals match by recording three pins before losing by decision to Fargo All-American, Bricker Dixon of Missouri.
135 – Garrett Hathaway: Finished in 4th Place with a 5-2 record. Garrett had a pin and two major decisions.
215 – Mickey Pelfrey: Finished in 3rd Place with a 3-1 record. Mickey had a pin and a major decision.
Trojan Wrestling Club - War Hammer Competitive Club - Session 1 Practice
Trojan War Hammers Competitive Club - Session 1 practices begin on Monday, October 19 at 6:30 pm. Luke Eustice is guest clinician. The club informational flyer and registration sheet is now available on the Youth Page.

Trojan Wrestling Club Preseason Workouts
Trojan Wrestling Club preseason workouts will be on Mondays and Wednesdays from September 14 through November 4. These workouts will be in the Iowa City West wrestling room from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm. Luke Eustice is guest clinician.
The Trojan War Hammers Competitive Club are welcome to attend these optional practices prior to the competitive club beginning on Monday, October 12.

A calendar feature has been added to the Iowa City West High Wrestling web-site. The calendar can be accessed by clicking on the calendar icon at the lower left column of any Iowa City West Wrestling website page.
This calendar will show both practice and competition schedules for the Iowa City West Wrestling groups including:

Preseason practice and competition schedules for the Trojan Wrestling Club including the Trojan War Hammer - Competitive Youth Club have been added to the calendar. The calendar now shows the competition schedules for all West High, North Central Junior High, and Northwest Junior High events. Additionally, Trojan War Hammer - Competitive and Beginner Youth Club practice schedules available through March 2010.
Nick Moore Commits to Hawkeyes
Trojan Wrestling family member, Nick Moore, orally committed to Iowa Hawkeye Head Coach Tom Brands.
Nick is working to become Iowa City West's 1st and the state's 19th four-time Iowa State High School Champion in the upcoming season. He has won Class 3A state titles at 130, 140 and 152 while compiling a career record to date of 131-1. His current consecutive win streak stands at 99 matches.
Nick will join his brother, Nate Moore, as well as former West High teammates Grant Gambrall, Derek St. John, and Dylan Carew on the Hawkeye roster. He has been coached by former Hawkeye national champion Mark Reiland throughout his junior high and high school career.
USA Wrestling ASICS/Vaughan Junior and Cadet National Championships Fargo, North Dakota
Junior Freestyle National Championships
Three Trojan Wrestling family members participated in the Freestyle National Championships.
105 - Jack Hathaway: All-American (2nd Place) with a 5-2 record. Hathaway had 5 wins including 4 pins on his route to the finals.
145 - Matt Mougin: Finished 5-2 record, beating the 8th place finisher during the tournament.
160 - Derek St. John: Champion with a 9-0 record while not surrendering a match point on his way to the title. St. John's season also included Junior Folkstyle and FILA Junior Freestyle titles.
Cadet Freestyle National Championships
Three members of the Trojan Wrestling family competed in the Freestyle National Championships.
91 - Phillip Laux: All-American (Runner-up) with a 7-1 record.
135 - Gradey Gambrall: Finished 3-2 record just missing placing in the top eight. Gambrall's three period loss in the 5th round turned out to be the difference in becoming an All-American.
145 - Justin Koethe: Champion with a 9-0 record and did not lose a period on his way to the title. Koethe reached the finals for the 2nd time in a week and capitalized on the opportunity this time in winning his Cadet National title.
Junior Greco-Roman National Championships
Three Trojan Wrestling family members participated in the Greco-Roman National Championships.
105 - Jack Hathaway: All-American (5th Place) with a 4-2 record. Hathaway's losses were to last year's national champion and this year's national champion.
171 - David Solis: Finished 0-2 record and gained valuable experience through camp as well as the Fargo experience.
285 - Max Pelfrey: Finished 0-2 record and gained valuable experience through camp as well as the Fargo experience.
Cadet Greco-Roman National Championships
Four Trojan Wrestling family members competed in the Greco-Roman National Championships.
91 - Phillip Laux: All-American (3rd Place) with a 5-1 record.
105 - Jack Hathaway: Finished 0-2 record. Lost his first two matches, both going 3 periods, with one of those losses to the eventual runner up. Hathaway had victories over wrestlers that placed in his bracket during the tournament.
135 - Gradey Gambrall: Finished 2-2 record with both losses to the wrestlers that finished 2nd and 4th. Gambrall had victories over wrestlers that placed in his bracket during the tournament.
145 - Justin Koethe: All-American (Runner-up) with a 8-1 record losing a hard fought battle in the finals to Brad Dolezal of Wisconsin. This was the 4th meeting between Koethe and Dolezal this summer in Greco Roman with each wrestler winning 2 of the meetings.
